The towns / A sporting view
Situated on the banks of the River Isère at the heart of the Valmorel Alpine resorts, La Léchère-les Bains is ideally located at the entrance to the Tarentaise Valley. Built at the very dawn of the 20th century, throughout the year the spa town is imbued with the atmosphere of the Belle Epoque, reminders of which can also be found in the Art Déco architecture of the emblematic Hotel Radiana. Fringed by a stunning floral park (extending over almost a hectare, with some 20,000 flowering plants), the thermal baths and the new Grand Spa Thermal invite guests to dip into the copper-rich waters for which it is renowned and which date back 10,000 years. The spas are used to treat rheumatology and phlebology in particular and offer exceptional views of the glaciers in the Lauzière and Vanoise Massifs. A renowned spa resort, La Léchère-les-Bains is also an essential place for cyclists who are keen on the mountains, since the village is the starting point for the ascent of the Col de la Madeleine, a classic among the Tour de France’s classics.
The capital of the province of the Dauphiné, located in the heart of the Alps and surrounded by mountains, Grenoble is a veritable paradise which boasts many outdoor leisure and sporting activities, making it the dream destination for anyone keen on nature, thrills and adventure. The city where Stendhal (the "inventor" of the tourist guide) was born, is perfectly described by his famous quotation, “Grenoble has a mountain at the end of every street.” The city has a dense architectural mix, ranging from historic buildings from the Gallo-Roman period right up to the most recent and innovative sustainable structures. With a youthful student population and wide programme of festivals, visitors can enjoy exploring the backstreets and squares of Grenoble all year round. As for sport, Grenoble boasts 130 venues and locations, which highlight the city’s objective to encourage all sporting activities – be they for beginners or for international competitors, for sports played individually or as a team – and actively promotes “sport for everyone” with all its inherent values.
