Brives-Charensac enjoys a privileged location along the wild banks of the Loire, 30 minutes from Mont Mézenc. Resulting from the merger of Brives (on the right bank) and Charensac (on the left bank) in 1839, the town now has population of 4,500 with 2,235 school pupils, from nursery to post high school-leaving level.
In 2021, Brives-Charensac became the first municipality in the Haute-Loire to obtain the “Active & Sporting Town” label. This award reflects how dynamic the town is and is a tribute to its sporting traditions, which are particularly focused on its young inhabitants.
With its many cycling tracks, Brives-Charensac encourages getting around by bike and a walking and cycling path extends from it for 30 kilometres to Costaros.
A learners’ track was also created in 2020, allowing the town’s youngest inhabitants to enjoy an introduction to cycling and road safety. Furthermore, the banks of the Loire are perfect for bucolic outings, or even more sporty excursions.
Brives-Charensac is also the department's leading commercial zone, with nearly 160 companies and several thousand employees.
