After five days of battles in the valleys and over moderately high summits, Lukas Pöstlberger leads the Critérium du Dauphiné. He knows the yellow and blue jersey won’t remain his exclusive property until Sunday and the altitude finish in the ski resort. “When there is a proper GC battle, I know I will lose it at some point”, he announced while savouring his days of glory. Well, the intensity of the battle for the overall victory is set to increase this Friday and the first skirmishes already brought forward some very serious contenders for the overall victory. Astana-Premier Tech can rely on an impressive power duo, with Alexey Lutsenko and Ion Izagirre in prime position after their dominant performances in Wednesday’s time-trial. Wilco Kelderman is ready to surge, we’re also eager to see how far Ilan Van Wilder can go in the mountains with his white jersey… On the other hand, Geraint Thomas didn’t perform as expected in the ITT but he bounced back in style on Thursday and made his presence felt in the first positions of the standings. The rest of the spectrum is full of climbers, with the likes of Lopez, Gaudu, Quintana or Martin looking forward to up the ante after a solid start of the race. Who’s ready for the week-end?
