The 53-member Plaine de l'Ain federation of municipalities has become a hotbed of start-ups and innovation by backing entrepreneurs and capitalising on its prime location. It also works hard to promote its tourist assets, including its historical heritage (medieval city of Pérouges), natural sites (La Charabotte waterfall) and cultural life (Ambronay Festival for early music, Pérouges Spring Festival, etc.). Fans of outdoor activities make the most of the hilly terrain of the Bugey region, with via ferratas, paragliding, canoeing and canyoning. A sprawling network of bike paths, including the ViaRhôna between Saint-Sorlin-en-Bugey and Villebois, are testament to the federation's passion for cycling. They also roll out the red carpet for the Tour de l'Ain and the Critérium du Dauphiné! To host the Critérium, the federation of municipalities joined forces with the Chazey-sur-Ain Horse Park, an exceptional 40-hectare site with a race track, a training centre, a school and a branch of the French Institute of the Horse and Riding.

Guarded by a wall of staggering cliffs, the Vercors Massif —the lung of the region— looks like an island on dry land. After overcoming its final escarpments, visitors can make the most of the vast spaces of the massif, engaging in a wide range of activities that offers both relaxing experiences and intense thrills. Its fabled roads with rock arches make it a legend of cycling and cyclotourism, while its terrain offers a wide range of courses and gradients. As well as being a hub of cyclosportives and mountain biking, the Vercors Massif is a regular fixture in pro races. Lans-en-Vercors, a vibrant, authentic town, is one of the resort villages in the area that roll out the red carpet for visitors. Nestled in the heart of a gentle, accessible mountain, it is a fantastic place for family holidays. Activities and sports and cultural events take place year-round. The finish at Montagnes de Lans (where the Alpine and Nordic ski slopes begin) promises to be an exciting one.
